About the Hopin Platform
What is Hopin?
The purpose of Hopin is to create live online events that are interactive and personal. Attendees can network, break out into sessions, utilize polls, and explore collaborative Expo areas. Hopins mission is to build better connections for a better world and to replicate those in-person of seminars and meetings.
Introduction of the Tabs
To utilize this platform, you must first register for a free account. Adding your LinkedIn account and a photo is recommended for a large portion of operating the events. After registering you are able to sign-up for an event and that is when you can start exploring that event.
The event will have 5 tabs on the left that are what you will use to navigate through segments with ease: Reception, Stage, Sessions, Networking, and Expo (Booths).
Reception Tab: This is the first tab you will see on the left that is sort of a landing page of “What’s happening now”. You will be able to see the amount of time left in an event you are currently enrolled in, you will be also be able to see all of the people that are in the event that are speaking.
Stage Tab: This is where you will be able to listen to the key speaker or a panel of speakers and where all of the keynotes are. You can have up to 6 people on stage at a time and up to 100,000 people are able to watch the stage. The people tab on the right side of the screen is where you can view who is in the event and send them direct messages.
Session’s Tab: This is where group breakout sessions are located. You can scroll through and see if there are any sessions that seem intriguing. And observe who has been viewing the session. You can start a live video in sessions where can chat with everyone about the details of the different topics. Sessions are divided into subcategories based on different areas of focus. You must press “participate” in order to go live on camera. There can be up to 10 people that can join a session and be on camera speaking, and up to 500 people are able to observe the session and message within the sessions Chat.
The organizer can create either an open session for everyone or it can be an invite only where selected individuals can only access and press the “participate” button. This is contingent on the details of the session.
Networking Tab: This is where one-on-one meetings can take place. You will have to click “Ready”, then it will ask you to allow video and audio. After agreeing to this, you will be randomly connected with another person who is also ready to network. When this happens, you will be able to talk for a set amount of time. You will also have the opportunity to click the “Connect” button when talking to the other person, which will share your Hopin profile information, however, the other person must also click “Connect” on their end in order for their information to be shared. Think of this as a digital business card exchange. At the end of an event, you get a summary of all of the connections you have made.
Expo (Booth) Tab: This is where you will see a variety of Booths” based on different events. Sometimes these Booths will be used as information, a recorded video you can watch, or a place you can chat with someone. If there is a video option there will be a button where you can click to connect with the host and share info so they can reach out you later. The Expo tab is great for product demos and certain presentations and mimics that of an actual physical booth of an in-person event.
